Comparing the efficacy of sclerotherapy and intranodal laser coagulation (INLC) of hemorroids in clinical practice

Abstract

The high prevalence of hemorrhoids makes it necessary to improve traditional (surgical) methods of treatment, as well as to search for new, minimally invasive approaches appropriate for ambulatory settings and allowing to reduce disability periods and the number of complications. The aim of the study was to evaluate immediate and long-term results of treatment of grade 3 internal hemorrhoids with the national «Polyus» laser and radial laser waveguide, compared with the use of a well-known sclerosing technique with 3% aetoxisclerol solution. The prospective cohort, randomized, comparative study of two groups of patients comparable by sex, age and clinical manifestations was conducted, and immediate and long-term results (in one year) of the treatment were evaluated. Based on the findings, the authors concluded that, by its minimal invasiveness, INCL technique is comparable with sclerotherapy of hemorrhoids with 3% aetoxisclerol solution, however, in the long term, it is associated with better outcomes based on the overall evaluation.
