Тромбофлебит (воспаление и тромбоз поверхностных вен любой локализации) является достаточно частым патологическим состоянием. В специальной литературе используют понятия «варикотромбофлебит» для обозначения тромбоза и воспаления варикозной вены, а также «флебит» - воспаление поверхностной вены без тромбоза. Традиционным заблуждением служит представление о тромбофлебите как о локальном, самоограниченном процессе, который, в отличие от тромбоза глубоких вен (ТГВ), не несет серьезных опасностей для жизни и здоровья пациентов. Такая позиция глубоко ошибочна.
